Mission

In order to reduce crime and enhance the quality of life in our Township, the Community Services Division seeks to:

  • Educate the public on crime issues and their prevention

  • Improve public/police communications by working with Community Organizations to solve problems

Enhancing the quality of life through the prevention of crime is the primary role and goal of the Community Services Division.  It is when crimes are prevented from occurring that society is best served. The term crime prevention applies to proactive efforts and measures aimed at the elimination of criminal incidents, rather than responding to them after they have occurred.  Crime is the result of the desire or wish to commit the crime, the ability or knowledge of how to commit the crime and the opportunity to commit the crime.  By removing any one of the three elements we reduce crime.

The Community Services Division consists of a group of dedicated personnel committed to ensuring the success of the programs designed to educate, inform, and improve the quality of life for residents of Swatara Township.

The Community Service Division is responsible for providing all types of services to the public to include but not limited to:

  • McGruff the Crime Dog appearances

  • Child fingerprinting

  • Crime Watch and crime prevention information

  • DARE education

  • School Resource Officer, Steelton Highspire High School
