The testing
procedure has changed slightly from the past so please
take time to read everything thoroughly.
The first
phase of testing, a
physical fitness
test, will be administered at the Henry Hershey
Stadium on the campus of the Milton Hershey School, at 9:00AM on
Saturday, February 9, 2008. For all those
applicants who pass the physical fitness test, a battery
of written examinations
will be conducted at the Shumaker Public Safety Center
on the campus of the Harrisburg Area Community College
at 1:00PM on Sunday, February 10, 2008.
Additional
examinations, including but not limited to a physical,
psychological, polygraph, and an intensive background
investigation will be conducted on finalists for the
position. In addition, all candidates who are offered
conditional employment with the Township shall meet M.P.O.E.T.C. physical fitness requirements for entrance
into the Police Academy.

Applicants
must be 18 years of age to apply and must be 21 years of age
upon appointment to the Police Academy. Every applicant for
any position in the Police Department shall possess a
diploma from an accredited high school or a graduate
equivalency diploma. In addition, every applicant must
be a citizen of the United States, be physically and
mentally fit to perform the full duties of a police
officer, and be of good moral character. Applicants
must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle in this
Commonwealth, and agree to remain with the Township
police force (subject to the probationary period and all
other disciplinary and other township rules and
regulations) for a minimum period of two years.
All
appointments are provisional for twelve (12) months:
initial salary $42,646.82 per year with insurance,
retirement and other fringe benefits provided. During
the Academy a bi-weekly stipend of $1200 will be paid to
each cadet. All equipment and uniforms will be
provided.
Applications
are available by downloading from below or at the Swatara Township Police
Department at 599 Eisenhower Blvd. beginning December 7,
2007 during regular business hours. Hours of
operation are 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday thru Friday.
Applications
must be filed at the Swatara Township Police Department
office on or before 4:30PM on Friday,
January 25, 2008.
A forty-dollar ($40.00) application fee and a passport
photo must accompany
the completed and notarized application. No
application will be accepted before December 7, 2007 at
8:00AM.
Arrangements
can be made to mail the application by calling the
department. Incomplete mailed applications will
not be returned. It is the responsibility of the
applicant to ensure the application is complete and to
follow up with the department to verify that the
application was accepted.
