George C. Peters, Sr., 63, of Lower Swatara Township, Middletown, died Friday, May 19, 2006, at the Harrisburg Hospital.

George Peters was employed by the Swatara Township Police Department for 27 years from April 10, 1967 until his retirement as a Corporal on May 30, 1994.  Corporal Peters was promoted to that rank on December 14, 1973.

Corporal Peters was also a former member of the Harrisburg Police Department; a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Vietnam War era serving as an electrician's mate; a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Greater Harrisburg Lodge No. 78; a lifetime member and charter member and captain of the honor guard of VFW Post 1213, Rutherford Heights; American Legion Post No. 998, Lawnton; AmVets Post No. 286, Rutherford Heights and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 410, Middletown.

Corporal Peters was born in Harrisburg on October 13, 1942, the son of the late Edmund L. and Emma L. (Gardner) Peters.

Surviving are his loving wife of 43 years, Gretchen D. (Hamburg) Peters; a son, George C., Jr., and daughter-in-law, Karen L. of Linglestown; a son, Darryl L. and daughter-in-law, Dawna M. of Middletown; a daughter, Diana L. Peters and partner, Stephen M. of Paxtonia; a brother, David Vaughn of Norfolk, VA; three grandchildren, each of whom was the sunshine of his life, Travis J., Ethan H. and Victoria E.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland with the Rev. Eugene A. Liddick officiating.  Burial with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.  Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
