
SWATARA POLICE MOURN THE PASSING
OF RETIRED CHIEF OF POLICE -
June 29, 2006
Robert Walmer,
76, of Harrisburg, formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006, at
his home.
Born
December 4, 1929, in Harrisburg, he was the son of
the late Lewis E. and Mary Grace Walmer and the
widower of H. Jacqueline Walmer.
Robert was a 1946 graduate of William Penn High School.
He was employed by the Swatara Township
Police Department for 33 years from September 28,
1953
until his retirement as Chief of Police on October 31, 1986.
Walmer was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on
December 1, 1966 and then Chief of Police on February
12, 1975. After retirement he worked for the
Dauphin County Sheriff's Department and as a court
crier for Judge Kleinfelter for ten years.
Robert was a member of Twenty Ninth Street United
Methodist Church, Robert Burns Lodge 464, The
Harrisburg Consistory, Fraternal Order of Police,
and the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association.
Surviving are his son, Patrick Walmer and wife,
Stella of Palmyra; two sisters, Patricia Watts and
husband, Harold of St. Petersburg, FL and Carol
Turns and husband, Sam of Dauphin; and many nieces,
nephews, and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m.,
Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Twenty Ninth Street
United Methodist Church, 29th & Derry Streets,
Harrisburg. Visitation will be held one hour
prior to services. Burial will be private and
held at the convenience of the family.
